A brief note for those interested in Ruby and scripting on a Mac... I've written a series of short tutorials if you would like to try your hand with Ruby as an alternative to AppleScript. The tips walk through the basics of working with rb-appscript, a Ruby scripting bridge to Apple Events. If you are interested, you can get started here: http://macdevelopertips.com/ruby/ruby-an-applescript-alternative-part-1.html Hope you find it helpful. Thanks, John.
And for those wondering *why* you would want to use ruby-Applescript instead of plain old applescript, Matt Neuburg wrote an article a while ago that might be instructive:
http://www.oreilly.com/pub/a/mac/2007/02/27/replacing-applescript-with-ruby.html
If you have no experience with Ruby, there are online tutorials which are helpful if you google 'ruby tutorial'. It might be worthwhile just so you don't have to write "tell...end tell" ever again. ;-)
