Hello Ruby,

Your request sent to the AppleScript Users List has degenerated into a long
thread about the finer points of techniques using Perl and Shell in a cross
platform environment, which is not what you asked for and may not be what
you want.

Your particular question can be answered with pure simple appleScript, no
need to try to decipher all that code that may look like gibberish.

If you're patient I can send you an easy to follow appleScript verison this
this afternoon.
