Terribly sorry for my careless typing.

That's Option-Enter. With your curser in the URL bar (Location Bar) at the top of Safari (any version), Hitting Option-Enter DOWNLOADS the URL instead of loading it in the browser.

This is in Safari 4.0.3 in Mac OS 10.5.8.

Is the technique you're referring to something new in OS 10.6? Or some
setting somewhere?
