Hold on to those scripts as long as you can.
For many products, including Apple products, AppleScript is like a 'second wave' technology. If an application (or an entire system) gets a major upgrade, applescript is often not improved for the upgrade and often parts are broken, but scripting may be improved in subsequent minor releases.
File detailed bug reports and specific and pratical feature requests and be patient.
