A spreadsheet is a large, complex application. As a rule of thumb,
that means the available ones will either cost money (Numbers) or be
cross-platform (OpenOffice) or both (Excel). And a cross-platform app
ported to the Mac is less likely to have support for Mac-specific
technologies like AppleScript.
You might, however, be able to get what you want via Safari and Google
Docs Spreadsheet, siince you can use AppleScript to have Safari
execute arbitrary JavaScript.
