My father just got a digital camera for the first time... He's running

one that shipped with Panther; the Mini came with a Tiger CD but not
the Tiger iLife. In any case, it's version 1.x). So while I will be
getting him iPhoto '09, it would be nice in the meantime if iPhoto
launched automatically upon insertion of the memory card. Is there a
way to attach a folder action to a volume so that a script is executed
when that volume is mounted? I'd rather not have to do this via
polling.

I am sorry if I do not recall iPhoto 1.
I don't how good it was.
However, if your father is using Tiger, you should check if Image
Capture could be used instead.
It does a good job in many ways. It is not iPhoto, but it has been
getting there.
