No, it's because Trinity Mirror Group use Lotus Notes. The Notes
client doesn't have a mailing list manager feature as such. There is a
manual way to achieve the same result but the Notes client is not
built to be user friendly. If you see any OOO Message from User name/
Certifier/Certifier/Certifier type format, it's usually best to reply
with "I'm sorry to see you're using Lotus Notes".
It's also a UK thing. The laws there on email disclaimers are quite silly.
That's not true (I'm in the UK). Disclaimers are entirely optional. What you've got in the TMG disclaimer is pretty much what any newspaper group would use. Newspapers don't like being sued for libel based on the content of something the editor has no editorial control over. I don't know about common law in other countries, but all you need here for defamation or IIED cases is for someone to send an email from a company address saying "famous person X is a paedophile" and X can sue the company for millions. By putting in a disclaimer that says "Nothing to do with us" the theory is that the company dodges any legal action. I say it's a theory because I don't know if this has actually been tested in court yet.

There. Now I can't be accused of being off topic.
