In the Finder's Preferences, General tab, there is a check box named
"Always open folders in a new window".
Yesterday, I noticed that UNCHECKING this box fixed a problem with
"Search the Current Folder" in the Advanced tab.
Today, I noticed that CHECKING this box fixed a problem with an
alias file (created by my script) which, when double-clicked, opened
a folder window with the wrong bounds.
I started a bug report on this. Then, I realized that I don't know
what the "Always open folders in a new window" is supposed to do!
Does anyone know the intended consequences of this check box?
G'day Luther.
Box unchecked..... When you double click on a folder icon within a
folder window, the clicked folder opens in the same window, and the
left most arrow out of the two arrows at the top left of the window
becomes active. Clicking on this arrow takes you back to the first
folder, and the rightmost arrow is now active. Think of this action
as opening a line of windows, with the arrows moving you along the line.
Box checked......... Double clicking a folder within the window opens
that folder in a new window. If no previous settings are set for the
window, it opens in whatever mode you have the previous window set at.
