I used:

tell application "Smile" to log x

To see which files where being "recognized". But knowing their names doesn't
help anyway ;-)

Drag & drop seems to be buggy in the Finder (when you drop something onto an
app's icon, or in the dock), but works fine when attached to objects. For
example, if I drop my 51 test items onto a Smile window, I receive a list of
51 items. In a Studio app I have, invoking the "open x" handler will bring a
list of 4 items as well. But invoking the "drop theObject" one (attached to
a NSImageView) will receive all the files OK.
