Apparently the use of "protocol" is ambiguous.

Another term is "URL scheme"; as discussed here.

"The scheme name (or protocol) of a URL is the first part of a URL - e.g. schemename:// ....."

So let me rephrase the question. How can I find the list of all URL schemes handled by a system?
