URL Scripting is an interface to curl, Folder Actions is an interface to launchd (and image events is an interface to sips). I've found cutting out the middleman makes them both more reliable. Curl you've already discovered and I've got something on my blog about launchd. My blog is more a notepad for me than a blog in the true sense so there's plenty of other examples with better explanations if you google 'applescript launchd' but the post is here - http://bit.ly/eK9NA3
