Thanks for the hints.
hamsoft.com seems to be defunct,
and macscripter.net returns no result when searching for mdls using Google, but there are three results when using Tag Search.
The most significant and helpful one seems to be
"Using Spotlight in your AppleScripts" (http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=24765).
I'll take a look at that.
