Whups.  Let me revise and extend my remarks.  I also use the scroll bar as a visual cue for where I am in a document.  Although they can made visible all the time I've decided to leave mine on the default show 'Automatically Based On Input Device'.

Personally I find the spring-loaded end-of-field animation much more annoying than the scroll-bar change.
