Yes. Notice the first line:
mbox is a generic term for a family of related file formats used for holding collections of electronic mail messages.
All messages in an mbox mailbox are concatenated and stored as plain text in a single file.

This has nothing to do with the .mbox folder extension (unless you use Mail's Archive Mailbox).

The .mbox folders I'm referring to in Lion are in ~/Library/Mail/V2/

I should have said ...
Can a .mbox folder contain more than one sub-folder with a big-long-name?
If the answer is NO, then I think I can work-around my problems fairly easily.

In other words, I can avoid using 'entire contents'.
