WHAT DOES NOT WORK ... If you do not create a new folder, but try to change list view columns with set visible of column index ... commands at -- insert test scripting here , you will be successful ... until you manually change a column via the Finder's List View Options window (Command-J). Once you make a manual change, the visible columns become stuck on your manual change.
You have to create the folder manually to avoid using my handler.
With continued experimenting, I have found that , in addition to manual change, once you do any of the commands ... set uses relative dates of list view options ... set shows icon preview of list view options ... set width of column index 1 of list view options ... set sort column of list view options ... and perhaps others, the visible of a column can no longer be changed via a script.
I don't know if this behavior appeared in 10.6.8 or if it has been there all along. It does change the nature of my bug report and I may write an addendum.
If anyone knows more, let us know.
