| Let me end the confusion. I've tested and verified this:
In Leopard 10.5.8, Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Lion 10.7.2 ... 1. Admin users can manually change "Enable access for assistive devices" without a password. 2. Standard users need an admin username & password to change this manually. 3. The script tell application "System Events" to set UI elements enabled to ... always needs an admin username & password if there is a change.
I was mislead because this box, unknown to me was checked, probably because a script error caused the box not to be reset properly.
The script I'm using was first written in an early version of Leopard and I suspect that the password requirement had not yet been introduced. I would have seen the password dialog and been really ticked-off.
Most of yesterday, I looked into "Printer Setup Utility". I think this is a dead-end.
I'm now left with requiring the user to manually check the "Enable access ..." box. There must be some danger associated with this, otherwise a password would not be required. I should advise my user of this, but I can find no Apple document which discusses this.
If anyone knows of any documentation, please let me know.
