As sometimes, we resort to shell commands, I wonder if there are other alternatives we can/should use to get stuff from the clipboard?
Would this be a perfect candidate for Shane's AppleScript Objective C?

If it contains an image, it freezes.

Hey Brian,
It does not freeze here, but if the image is of any size it can be very, very slow to return data - or it can timeout.
Daniel: these both work in Lion:
set theClip to the clipboard set theClip to the clipboard as record set clipInfo to clipboard info
And I'm about 99% sure they both work fine on Snow Leopard.
