No. I used ...

mount volume "ftp://ftp.lutherfuller.com" as user name "••••••••" with password "••••••••••••" --> read only

and it mounted read only. I did some searching on this problem and found many comments, but no solutions.
Apple mounts an iDisk as read & write, but ftp is read only.
I may try 
do shell script "mount_url ..."
later.
