While trying to duplicate conditions suggested off-list by Yvan Koenig, I discovered what may be a bug.
I am currently running 10.7.5 on a 50 GB partition named "OS_X" on an internal HD.
I have an external FW HD with a 40 GB partition named "OS_Lion" which contains an installation of OS 10.7.5.
I did the following:
1. With the option+command keys pressed, I did a drag & drop of the "Library" folder from the "OS_Lion" partition onto my desktop, creating an alias file.
2. I double-clicked the alias file causing the correct Library folder to open.
3. I unmounted all partitions on the external HD, then turned off the external HD.
4. I double-clicked the alias file again. The Library folder on "OS_X" opened. This is incorrect!
5. I turned on the external HD and waited for all partitions to mount on my desktop.
6. I double-clicked the alias file again. The Library folder on "OS_X" opened. This is incorrect!
The alias file is now permanently pointing to an incorrect folder.
Either this is a bug or has a good explanation unknown to me.
