Unfortunately, I don’t know of any way either.
What an awfully embarrassing morning I spent on a client's super-huge iMac after I instinctively used control-scrool to zoom in, only to find that his tiny mechanical scroll-ball worked in only the one direction!
It took nearly an hour just to find and close all the alerts in order to reboot the machine!
If that ever happens again, I plan to just pull the plug.
