After reading the various criticisms of OS X, including Alex's long list, I went searching for a word to describe Apple's current approach to OS design. I found this at dictionary.com …

artsy-craftsy
adjective Informal.
1. pretending to artistry and craftsmanship or to an interest in arts and crafts:
an artsy-craftsy chair; an artsy-craftsy person.
2. cloyingly charming: The shop has an artsy-craftsy décor.

and

cloying
adjective
1. causing or tending to cause disgust or aversion through excess:
    a perfume of cloying sweetness.

I like definition 2 of "artsy-craftsy".
Apple seems to have left the functional school of OS design in favor of the artsy-craftsy.
