 >>>Like David, I also deploy AS in a large mutual fund company
(specifically,
in the marketing department). We use it for workflow, image
prep, document
creation, and most critically, duct-taping different legacy
product and
processes together. Many large corporations have dozens of IT
fiefdoms
that are reluctant to upgrade anything, and AS has been a godsend
to my
group as we interact with that hodgepodge (example: SOAP calls to
ping old
databases).

One thing you have to consider is the "leverage" factor, in a couple of
ways.

We have numerous macs in our company, but only one appleScripter (yours
truly), yet many of my scripts are running on numerous macs. And we wouldn't
have a number of them if they weren't running appleScripts.

Since I'm not a programmer or full time scripter, it's good that these
appleScripts have required minimal maintenance through numerous upgrades.

I also think Apple is missing the boat in under-emphasizing corporate mac
sales specifically, and mac sales in general, in favor of iPhone/iPad sales.

I've noticed that people who have macs at work, are more likely to have macs
at home; and people who have macs at home or work are more likely to buy
iPhones and iPads.

When everything works Apple has a very nicely integrated array of products
that work quite well with each other and work nicely with other's products
as well. That should be a major selling point.

And here, one of our main uses of AppleScript is to help divergent
technologies from various competitors work together.
