Here’s an oddity I just found; perhaps this affects the original point.

If you CHANGE a script that’s called from a rule, it’s not enough to COMPILE it and save it.
If you do just that, then a cached version is used.
You have to RUN it (in ASE), compile it, and save it - then Mail will use the new version.
