Yes. In fact my script that "tags" items "Red" still uses the label property.
This issue didn't occur to me, since "Red" labels show up in the Tags-UI in the Finder.
Of interest in this hunt:
mdfind -onlyin ~/ 'kMDItemUserTags == "*Red*"c'
I'll get back to your previous post after I've finished with some stuff.
