G’day all
In light of the seeming eventual phasing out of Applescript, I have a question that I hope one of you good folk can answer.
My very, very large Xcode ASObjC project relies heavily on GUI scripting the following Apps…
1. Interarchy (an ftp transfer app)
2. TextEdit.
3. Mail.app
4. Adobe Acrobat (also with some _javascript_ing).
5. Adobe InDesign
6. Adobe Illustrator.
7. Microsoft Word.
8. Microsoft Excel.
9. GraphicConverter.
Questions. Will/can Swift be able to undertake GUI actions, even if it’s perhaps in future? Can it call _javascript_s?
I haven’t undertaken any research on Swift, but if anybody answers in the affirmative, I’m going to start, even at 68 years of age.
I’m just so darn used to using Applescript since it’s inception. However, I realize everything, even myself, has a time and place, and eventual extinction.
The thought of the possibility of this has me worried; 'and macOS inter-app scripting will be terminated’.
Perhaps part of my place is coming to an end.
Regards
Santa

has, well, I suppose you could be correct, even probably correct.
But it could have been worse, much worse.
Federighi could have responded with: "Sorry, but AppleScript will be depreciated in one year, and macOS inter-app scripting will be terminated."
He did NOT say that.
With no other real information available to us, it seems to me that we can:
- Protest via email, bug reports, petitions, etc.
- Not lose our heads until we know more.

Nope, Federighi is simply confirming current Automation technologies
will be switching to the Official Legacy Track, where Apple can quietly
leave simple inertia to roll them peacefully to the end of their lifecycle.
Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored.
