OK, thanks, that is good to know.
My thinking now is to wait about 3 months to ensure any major High Sierra bugs
have been fixed, and to ensure  that all  of my critical apps work well with
it.  Then, if I  don't see any material issues, I'll upgrade directly from El
Capitan to High Sierra.

Anyone see anything wrong with that logic?

There were no big issues. Just niggling little ones that I could have
eventually fixed.
