I answered Macbeth's question off-line, but below is a section of the
February AUGB which should answer many of the questions. In a nut shell, an
Ambassador needs to make sure at least five things are done when registering
their user group:
1) Register all group info here:
http://www.apple.com/usergroups/locator/admin/
2) Register only your (Ambassador's) information at ASW:
http://sales.apple.com/
3) Register for the AUGB here:
http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/augb
4) Register for the discussion list here
http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/augd
5) Relax & Enjoy; life is good.
Also, in a nut shell, the locator ID/PW and the ASW ID/PW are different --
the Ambassador needs to keep this info written down someplace just in case.
Here's the blurb from the Feb AUGB:
_____________________________________________________________________
USER GROUP PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
_____________________________________________________________________
[1] - Apple User Group Locator
...........................
Apple connects customers with local user groups via the online User
Group Locator (worldwide). Remember to keep your group's information up
to date. You can do this by logging on to the locator Admin site:
http://www.apple.com/usergroups/locator/admin/
It can take 2-3 weeks before you see changes reflected on the public
locator site.
Also, if you change the Ambassador information, please go to the Apple
Sales Web (
http://sales.apple.com) to update your information there.
This will insure that the ASW CDs are sent to the correct address.
_____________________________________________________________________
[2] - Apple Sales Web
...........................
This is your resource bonanza. User group leaders (one Ambassador per
group) have access to Apple Sales Web. Here you can search, find, read,
download, and buy from an extensive set of text articles, product
information, marketing and advertising materials, contract and policy
documents, forms, sales presentations, QuickTime movies, and logo
merchandise.
http://sales.apple.com/
The log-in information was sent to each group's Ambassador last spring.
If you are the Ambassador and have lost your password please email
<email@hidden> and tell them your name and group name.
If you are a new Ambassador and have not yet registered with Apple Sales
Web, please follow the instructions below.
=============
ASW Registration Instructions:
=============
* Go to
http://sales.apple.com/
- If you do not know your Apple ID, please click on "register here" at
the top of the page.
* Enter the remaining information on the registration page, carefully
noting the following requirements:
- Choose Ambassador as the job function
- Type your user group's name for the company name
- Type "Garr Reynolds" for the manager
- Type "email@hidden" for manager's email
* Click on Create New Person.
You will receive an email within 3 - 5 days letting you know the status
of your registration.

[3] - ASW CDs (Mailbox)
...........................
The ASW Mailbox contains the Apple Sales Web CDs and is mailed quarterly
to each group's designated Ambassador. On special occasions, an
additional batch of mailbox CDs may be delivered as well.
The CDs contain text articles, product information, marketing and
advertising materials, PowerPoint presentations, presentation speaker
notes, QuickTime movies, QT video from keynotes, product photography,
and so on.
Remember that if you want to continue receiving the mailbox CDs, you
need to log-in to your Apple Sales Web account (
http://sales.apple.com)
at least once every three months. Accounts which are inactive for more
than three months will be deactivated. There is so much useful
information at ASW that all Ambassadors should take advantage of the
opportunity to learn more and share what they learn with their groups.
This is a great resource.
The February Mailbox begins shipping on Monday, February 18, 2002. The
Mailbox takes approximately seven to ten days to arrive.

[4] - Apple User Groups Logo
.............................
** My group wants to use the Apple logo for promotional purposes. Can we?
Yes, but to legally use the Apple logo, you need to download, sign and
send in the User Groups Signature and Trademarks Licensing Agreement.
You can find the Trademarks distribution Agreement and the two EPS
"Apple User Groups" logos at:
http://developer.apple.com/mkt/swl/agreements.html#user
** Can we use the Apple logo (icon) alone or in our own user group logo?
Sorry, but no. After you have signed the Agreement, you may use the
"Apple User Groups" logo only, and this logo must be clearly subordinate
to your own group's logo. We encourage recognized groups to use the
"Apple User Groups" logo, however, please be sure that the Apple logo
(Apple logo icon) is not used alone or as part of your own logo in any
of your marketing material, website, newsletters, etc.
_____________________________________________________________________
[5] - Licensing Software Updates
...........................
Apple authorizes user group distribution of some Apple software updates
to their group members. Apple OS software updates are not available for
distribution under this agreement. Download, sign and send Apple a copy
of this agreement to participate.
http://developer.apple.com/mkt/swl/agreements.html#user
_____________________________________________________________________
[6] - User Group Discussion List
...........................
The Apple User Group Discussion list is an email list where you can ask
questions, exchange ideas, forge relationships and discuss the future of
your groups and the worldwide Apple User Group community.
http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/augd
_____________________________________________________________________
[7] - Apple User Group Bulletin
...........................
The Apple User Group Bulletin (AUGB) is the document you are reading
now. All Ambassadors and many other user group leaders receive this
email bulletin at least once per month, usually on or about the 15th of
the month. The AUGB features user group news and information as well as
vendor specials. The bulletin is produced by Apple with a lot of
volunteer help from such user group leaders as Elsa Travisano (Editor),
Lorene Romero (Vendor Queen), and many others. If you have suggestions
or content ideas for the bulletin please send them to Elsa at:
<email@hidden>
http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/augb
Please remember to read the AUGB monthly and pass on the appropriate
information to your group membership.

[8] - Requesting Promotional Items
...........................
Do you need Apple promotional items for a special user group event?
Sometimes we can send things, sometimes not. But we'll always do the
best we can for you. Please fill out the form at the link below and tell
us about your event.
