It's not really free even then...unless people live in a wonderland
where bandwidth is free.
Apple has a different 'deal' for Mac users that don't want to or
cannot download the 59.7MB update. Apple says,"You will be charged
$19.95
for shipping and handling plus applicable sales tax for each upgrade
shipped."
There are several choices. You forgot the one about "put up with the OS
version you have now"
Give me a break. We all know that it does not cost $19.95 to burn
a CD and mail it to someone in the United States.
No? How much does it cost to burn a CD, get it printed, produce the
packaging and get the consignments managed. The people that write the
web pages and manage the transactions have to be paid as well. How much
would you charge?
The free-ness covers the effort to develop and test the update and
incorporate the various fixes into the OS.
(Before you answer this, check out how much most Free O.S.es are "sold"
for in CD form)
