Joe, and others.
While the word restraint is good in what most of us UG leaders must use, I
can also feel for what some of these others are feeling. I know that as an
Apple Users Group, we are not necessarily guaranteed anything. In fact we
have gotten nothing (Not complaining) and yet we have tried to make do with
what we do have.
However, Apple does advertise that with the Official Apple User Group status
that there are certain items which will be made available to the ambassador
for that group. Yet even though these items are listed as being available,
I have had the Apple Sales dept tell us that we have no right to those
items. (iMac account, etc).
The point being that even though Apple says we will receive these items, we
should not expect them and these days, not even hope for them. But Apple
also should not advertise that we will receive these items in the first
place thus eliminating any need for us wondering about whether or not we
will receive them or even have any right to them.
In the old days, Apple was always happy to provide the user groups the
support as it was these groups which helped the end users. Steve Wozniak
even spoke at one of our meetings in 1979 and both he and Randy Wiggington
provided the materials for one our more popular books of the era, Wozpak II.
All these notes were personal items they provided and asked us to share.
However, this type of sharing changed with the end of the Apple II era. Now
they dont need our help to advertise, educate and evangelize. (Times do and
always will change). But as User Group leaders, we still should not let
this get in the way of educating, sharing and evangelizing the information
we do posess with those who are members of our groups.
