I read a report of a study today, that IDG had revamped the number of
computers being sold upward. Before this, they had dismissed the "white
box" makers as being insignificant. They now believe that it may make up
as much at 35% of the computers being sold. Most consumers don't see any
difference between the "white boxes" and the big names. Except that the
big names do "proprietary things" to their Intel machines that make it
harder to upgrade.
I don't know that Apple will ever be able to compete against the "white
boxes" all they can hope to do is build some share compared to the big
boys.
