I purchased two Wintel machines for another organization where I am the COO.
White boxes as the price was good for what we wanted.
1) the floppy drive assembly on one bent within a few months of use= weak "box"
2) Just over one year after purchase the power supplies on both units
died the same day. Luckily the company from which I had purchased was
nearby and the manager cooperative; I had two new, better power
supplies installed within a couple of hours at little cost .
Having purchased name brand items ; Macs , Dell, IBM and Gateway, I
did not know that often the power supply and other items built into
the CPU case used by white box makers are the cheapest of cheap and
customer needs to check and specify use of better quality parts (
which does raise the cost of the white box above the blow out price
advertised by the clone makers). Sort of like purchasing a bicycle,
at least the way it was some years back ( I haven't' purchased a
bike in years as my money now goes to my Macs :)- when you had to
specify so many individual components tto get the bike you wanted.
Just a bit more food for thought for people tempted to purchase white boxes.
