I'd like to hear from others of you as to what you do as regards
having a
computer at your meeting site. There is no "resident" Macintosh in the
room
we use, so one (usually a Powerbook) has to be furnished. This raises
practical problems, such as there being only a handful of laptops among
people with irregular patterns of attendance.
This is a tough problem, we solved it by having the group purchase a
power book, but that is generally not the easiest. A solution is to
have an officer arrange before the meeting to have at least two people
lined up to bring in a system for the presentation. It never hurts to
have a back up.
A recurring scenario is one of a member willing to present a demo but
needing a Mac to do it. And of course the software to be demoed has
to be
loaded in by the computer's owner, and then (usually) the presenter's
prefs
file substituted. Obviously, one can't rely only on the laptop owners
for
demoes.
And there is no easy solution, but you might try to put the burden on
the presenter, there are other novel ideas, such as preparing a video
of the presentation, and presenting the video. Also you might try and
have a list of people that would be willing to work with presenters to
co produce the demo.
Are any of you bringing desktops or iMacs to your meetings?
Yes we have and still do tis quite often, with the size of iMacs today
they are almost portable
How are you
handling the matter of member-presenters not being able to bring their
own
computer to present a demo, thus needing to use another?
This so far has not been a problem, seems that getting people to do
demo other than a handful is the real problem
If there is a Mac
"in residence" at the meeting site, how does the software that will be
demoed get loaded in?
That one is easy, it is installed and then uninstalled at the meeting
(before and after). We always have a club officer in attendance to
provide assistance.
