I think that perhaps you're mistaking non-profit for non income. Every
dollar that a user group can get from an affiliate program means a dollar
that you don't have to get from dues. now this is assuming that you have
expenses such as publishing a newsletter, mailing letters, renting meeting
space.
I don't see anything unethical about earning some money for user group
expenses.
