Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it. Actually, I think it sounds
like a good idea. You could clearly tell your members and visitors that
purchasing from your site helps support your site. You could even ask
members to recommend favorite books and write up their recommendations, then
post them along with the link.
Even if you were a not-for-profit, you could do this. It makes money that
helps keep the group going. Money to run the group is not a profit.
