I was just thinking how my Mac experience started. I purchase a floor model
Performa 600 ($317 closeout in 94 or so) from a dept. store as my first Mac
to replace an aging Commodore Amiga 1200 (overpriced hardware and expensive
shareware that was somewhat buggy but far, far ahead of it9s time). The Mac
came with a keyboard and a mouse and no software disks. I was told I could
call Apple and I could order the stuff that was missing, possibly for free
or just shipping.
With the Amiga, I remember spending $12 for one floppy disk of Canon Ink jet
print drivers from a local authorized Amiga dealer just so I could print, so
I couldn9t believe Apple would send me the OS software disks for free. One
call and they did, absolutely free of charge-SHIPPED! They ALSO sent disks
of all the bundled software, manuals and everything that came in the box,
all on their dime. I was truly floored!
That one incident made me a Mac evangelist for life. Apple is a company that
really cares about it9s customers.
