Greetings
First, for those of you not subscribing to the MUG
InfoManager list, I've posted my daily reports from
the Federal Trade Commission's SPAM Forum
at:
*
http://www.aacug.org/UCE/FTC_1.html
While it's in no way complete -- I haven't had time yet to
analyze the tapes -- it is the daily diary of the events
of that historic event.
Tapes and full details are available at:

FOR USER GROUPS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA
----------------------------------------
We've come to a milestone for user groups to once again
take the challenge of an important cause in our local communities.
This is a call to action for any user group leaders
reading this list from the State of Virginia
to review:

This is our new Anti-spam law, enacted last week, and our
important new opportunity to finally actually do something
about the spam choking our bandwidth and in-boxes.
Dr. William Hancock, Chief Security Officer of Wireless & Cable
gave us a wake-up call in no uncertain terms:
"At the current rate of increase, if uncurtailed,
UCE will effectively cripple all available bandwidth
in gridlock within two years."
We have already contacted legal counsel to begin the
process of taking our first litigation action against spam.
We will be opening a channel of information and exchange
amongst VA MUGS so you can inform your memberships and call
them to action.
LET VIRGINIA LEAD THE WAY
Our information resource, and the proceedings will act as
a springboard for your own local actions.
LET'S SEND a clear and dramatic message to spammers
that they're NOT welcome in the Old Dominion -- and
that if they persist, they may end up making
license plates in Richmond!
Please contact me at once, and watch for press releases and
announcements as this new chapter of civic involvement by
MUGS unfolds.
If you want me to come and give a presentation to your
local club or civic organization about the Federal Trade
Commission's proceedings, or how they can now litigate
against spam, just email me, or pick up the phone and
call 540-433-8402.
TO MUGS IN OTHER STATES:
-----------------------
There are 27 states with legislation in force or proposed
which offer you a direct means of making a difference.
This is a time to show the world what Mac users are made of.
(And if you think the world's not watching, read page 3
of my FTC reports -- a sad commentary on America!)
You can access your state at:
*
http://www.spamlaws.com/state/
I encourage you to get involved and identify the legal resources
in your local groups to dig up the laws, and put them into use.
I also encourage you to visit:
*
http://www.aacug.org/UCE/
and review the first draft of the "UCE Initiative" which is
soon to be launched nation-wide to the ISP industry. Although
in draft form and not released to the public yet, this initiative
is the culmination of two years of research, and we could use
your pairs of eye now to help fine tune it, and rally behind
its powers.
Thank you.
:-)
