I posted my Panther box pics yesterday to
http://homepage.mac.com/trilby/PhotoAlbum11.html
and sent an email to macintouch.com, macnn.com and some others.
15 hours later the page has had 20500 hits thats 22 ish per minute.
I've had over 60 emails via the site from all over the world, and all
of it made possible with .mac.
Thanks Apple for .mac and Panther, it's going to be great!
Isn't this a breach of NDA - and a morals?
For one thing, I don't understand how you got this box. According to
all I
know, it's not being sent to anyone until the evening of the 24th. And
if
you have it by some questionable means, it's not ok to be bragging
about it.
I'm on the beta as an author and cannot speak about unadvertised
features
until the release date and time in our own time zone. It's also
standard for
a beta to not speak about the details of the beta. I find it curious
and
rather disturbing that you have this product, that you're showing it
off,
that you're making it news, and that you're a UG leader. (If you
somehow got
the product but kept it under your hat, I'd not be bothered.) Benjamin,
according to your own group's website, you're under the same release
that we
are: 8pm Friday Oct 24th.
Above, you thank Apple, but your actions are not respectful of Apple. I
don't see that as being a good Mac user, nor a good Mac leader.
What am I not understanding here?
I posted another message in reply to Bills earlier which hasn't
appeared yet, but it may echo some of this one. ( I just noticed I sent
it to Bill rather than the list, it's on the way now.)
Computers Unlimited, one of the 3 distributors of Apple software here
in the UK has, it seems, made a mistake and shipped out backorders of
Panther early. I happen to have got mine and am very excited about it.
I guess many others have also had their copies as CU are a fairly major
player in the UK distribution of Apple software. In discussion with
Apple UK's PR today it seems that the boxes should have been marked
with an embargo date, and in line with this I have remove the pics from
the site.
I'm not bragging about anything, yeah I'm excited about this all, but
aren't you? Had there been something with the product to say keep
sealed until 24th then I would have done so. As a past Apple developer
and reseller and now UG contact I am well aware of such things as NDAs
and "morals".
Thanks for questioning my abilities as a UG leader which you do based
on one message and a lack of understanding of all the facts. It bothers
me a bit as I work very hard for our group as others on this list
probably know. I'm even known to set my alarm for 3am so I can join the
WWB chats in a daze! I don't whine about how hard Apple makes it for us
groups to work, I get my head down and persist and have always done so.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, the last paragraph of your email just
touched a nerve.
So come one guys lets all get excited about this, Panther is here, well
it will be soon, and it's going to be fun!
Cheers
B.
