Hi Gary,
Somehow, I always think of Microsoft, when someone calls a restriction
imposed by a new version of anything a feature, and this is surely one of
them ;-)
Deborah has a valid point that if you make your screenshot into a JPEG-file,
you will loose quality in that process. If you then proceed to crop and save
again, you will loose additional quality, perhaps even ending up with a
grainy and not very pretty screenshot. JPEGs are not meant for further
editing.
On the other hand, I would recommend you to check out the QuickImageCM 2.1
which is freeware from here:
http://www.pixture.com/macosx.php
Using that, ctrl-clicking on the image will let you both crop and save as
JPEG in one step, without even launching an application! Beware that the
JPEG-compression is set to medium as default, which may or may not suit your
needs.
SnapzPro is of course the preferred tool for serious screenshot handling, if
you can and want to pay for it, and it will certainly make the process even
easier than what I suggest here.
Cheers,
Kim

I use screenshots to make up training docs. JPEGS are easier to crop and edit.
