Michael:
Due to demand, I founded a "Digital Photography" SIG for Apple Corps of
Dallas. We cover cameras, graphic applications and printing. One
unique thing I decided to do that has been very well received is having
"Walkabouts". For instance: To discuss White Balance in digital
cameras we had a field trip to downtown and discussed various lighting,
and balance settings as we shot in different lighting situations. Then
at our normal Saturday meeting we discussed the results. We had a
"Night Shoot" that started at 7:30 PM and went until 9 PM downtown. At
our regular Saturday meeting prior to the shoot, I passed out a shutter
speed and aperture settings sheet, and we discussed the basics of low
light photography. Then a week or two later we gathered downtown and
did the night shots. At the following meeting, we examined everyone's
photos and critiqued them.
Our next meeting will see us examining "How To Configure Print (Color)
Profiles". We have a Walkabout scheduled for right before Thanksgiving
at a local mall that really decorates well for the Christmas season.
As to guest speakers, we will start doing that at some point.
I hope this has been helpful. Please contact me if I can assist you.
Cheers!

Greetings Everyone,
I have a great topic for discussion and can't wait to see where this
leads.
I have been involved with a few SIGS over the years, but find myself
starting a brand new SIG.
We have so many people who are interested in Digital Photography that
we
have had great interest in making a SIG for it.
So I volunteered to lead it and my first meeting is at the end of
October.
I have some questions I am hoping those learned SIG leaders out there
can
help me out ;)
How do you run your SIGS? Is there a structure to it? Is there a
lesson or
a topic for each meeting? Is your SIG just sort of a "winging it"
atmosphere? Do you ever have guest speakers?
Ideas? Suggestions?
I have seen SIGs that were some of the above, and only a few seem
really
successful. I just want to offer something interesting to the people
who
come out to this SIG and not look like I don9t know what I am doing
(which
there is a little truth to that right now!)
So SIG leaders...care to share some insight for those that need help in
starting a SIG?
Thanks,
Mike
