Hi Barbara,
In Austin we are fortunate to have excellent relations with the Apple
Store - Barton Creek which opened on June 12. Before the store opened
the assistant manager and a Mac genius visited our meeting and brought
along an opening day t-shirt for a lucky attendee. On opening day we
passed out free Krispy Kreme donuts (and CapMac brochures) to people
waiting in line (we got advance permission from the manager of the
store) and picked up several new members.
The Barton Creek location doesn't have a theatre so it's not an ideal
location for SIG meetings (we use our projector at the local libraries
which have free meeting space with wireless internet access).
No special prices for MUG members. They do have brochures about our
group and have been seen to pass them out from the genius bar (they are
not in sight) when people ask where to find assistance with their Mac.
We've tried to find ways for our MUG to complement the store's
offerings. We don't need to cover intro to iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, etc.
in our beginners SIG anymore because the Store offers these classes
every week and we're happy to refer people there who can benefit from
those events. Instead we can spend our SIG time covering more advanced
topics related to those applications or others.
In October one of their geniuses did an awesome presentation about the
serviceability of the new G5 iMac at our monthly meeting, taking the
entire computer apart and putting it back together following the service
manuals Apple sends with replacement parts. You can see pictures here:

Last month the same Mac genius brought an iPod photo to show off at our
general meeting as a prelude to our main presentation.
In summary, we have a great relationship with our local Apple Store.
We're careful to thank them and publicize all they do for us, and are
fortunate that their management is eager for them to be a valued citizen
in our local Macintosh community.

I am curious :)
Do we have any idea of how many User Groups have been able to
establish special rapport with their local Apple Store?
IF so , how is the relationship assisting the MUG?
Can the MUG use Apple Store premises for meetings or programs?
Are Apple Store staff available to "do" programs for the MUG?
Any special discounts for the MUG members?
This came up on the list a year ago or longer. AM curious about the
current state of Apple Store and Apple User Group relationships.
Thanks
