Apple Corps (of Dallas) had an impromptu GarageBand demo given by one
of it's more eclectic members (Paul Sheldon) who got time to do the
demo in some extra time at the end of our Final Cut Pro SIG.
Paul used a Yamaha keyboard (a story on the use of the keyboard and
getting it to work with GarageBand is one of many great articles in
this upcoming month's AppleGram), and gave his demo based on his desire
to write a Love Song for a woman friend using a mature Bossa-Nova style
song base.
I very much enjoyed that which I experienced (about 2/3rds I'm told by
others), as I had another appointment.
Paul is colorful in his presentation, and very knowledgeable about his
music and use of MIDI integration (being assisted by another member who
is an Editor of the local NBC affiliate).
it was fun.

Our group had a demo of GarageBand at our February meeting.
We started out showing some pre-constructed, original tracks, but the
session quickly degenerated into the audience wanting to create
something
of their own. We ended up composing music on the fly, with people
yelling
out, "Try this, try that...yeah, that works...no, that's terrible."
(The
latter in response to trying Latin horn stabs with metal guitar.)
We had lots of laughs and fun, and best of all, got most of the
attendees
involved, whether or not they had any musical training.
Has anyone else stumbled on any especially effective ways of
demonstrating GarageBand or any of the other iLife apps? This is just
too
great an app not to share.
