Renewals????
While on the subject of the free Dot mac account, for the Record could someone please post updated CORRECT DETAILED information about how renewal works now. I recently took the updated Dot Mac quiz (after a few searches for it on Apple Sales Web), took the course (you can only take it once now, and ONLY the first score counts) and passed but missed a few (with enough points to pass I hope).
Anyway, the renewal message is now gone from the front of our Dot Mac homepage, so I hope The Michigan Apple is good for another year. (I’ll check the expiration next time I log in).
My efforts were trial and error but for those who are also up for renewal soon, the correct procedure may be helpful and a timesaver.
Uses for YOUR Dot Mac account.
As long as we are on the subject, how are some of the other Groups using their Dot Mac website (especially those Groups who have another website already)?
Our Dot Mac homepage works as a compliment to our main website. We are currently hosting pictures from various User Group SPECIAL events and use the iCards feature to send special meeting announcements. We have been reluctant to host movies up there due to space limitations but with expanded 250MB space that may be a feature we will soon start using.
Board members have full access to the account and we use it to share private documents like our constitution, Sign in sheets, Minutes archive, and the most recent monthly membership list on the Internet for all the Board to access at anytime. I am also using it for compressed back-up storage of our main website.
Here’s our small but simple Dot Mac Homepage:

Dear Turtle-Bear,
As a member of the User Group Advisory Board, I double-checked with Apple on
your question. You were exactly right about the proper uses of a user
group's .Mac account.
Here's what the Apple User Group Bulletin said when the accounts were first
made available to user groups:
"This account is a full .Mac account which will let you show your members
all that is possible with .Mac. You can post photos and movies of your
group, create web pages for your group, send and receive group email,
back up group information, and much more."
If members want to take advantage of the benefits of .Mac, they need their
own account.
Hope this helps,
Elsa
