Hello
So your asking how do you tell someone to take the $2 Macworld coffee mug instead of the $300 Adobe GoLive?
Why not add a rider.
If they take the GoLive they have to write a review of the product for the club newsletter/website.
You'd set the minimum requirements for the article. For example, within 60 days, 500 words (spelled correctly and grammatically acceptable), must have sections like their system and suggested minimum system, must have section like how you used it, must have section like if you like the product, and would recommend it (if not, why not).
Unless they want to commit to use the software they won, they get to use the coffee mug and enjoy a delicious hot beverage of their choice, instead.
Everyone wins. The member get the software, the member gets to learn new things (about the stuff and their computer) or have a hot cup of Joe, and the club gets a review which could help you get more stuff.
That's just my opinion and I could be wrong. What do you think?

Here's a question about door prizes from a member of my group's board. I'd
appreciate ideas.
We award door prizes on a "first drawn, first choice" basis, with each
winner choosing from the prize table (one free ticket per membership per
meeting). Someone staffs the table to answer questions about software
compatibility, which prizes are most suitable for "newbie" members, etc.
I guess it's human nature, but people sometimes go for software that they
will never use, because of its perceived "dollar value." Meanwhile, there
are other members would be able to put that prize to good use.
Is there any good way to help get door prizes into the hands of those
members most likely to want/need them, while keeping things fair?
