Hi Tudor,
In the case of The MUG Center's exclusive offers: sometimes I approach
them, sometimes they approach me. Either way, once discussions are open,
a list of "preferred" options is provided to them, one of which is that
they make the offer as geographically diverse as possible i.e. global.
As to the Apple MUG Store: not quite sure of the genesis of that one,
but that is only one of the many.
Some vendors prefer to work directly with just individual user groups,
or groups have specific connections with vendors.
There really isn't a specific formula, Tudor. We all just appreciate
that vendors see user groups as a specific market segment worth paying
special attention to. Any time any of us, as user group leaders or
representatives, can let the vendors know how much we appreciate their
support, it helps pave the way for future partnerships.
