A few questions for MUG leaders...
How much do various groups charge for their annual membership?
100 DKK ~ US $ 16
And what services do members get for that fee?
biweekly speeches on different subjects. Normally a Pro and an
Amateur thing. (i. e. Adobe Golive by someone working professionally
with the application and Network for beginners by a competent member
of the board)
Is a printed Magazine included?
no
Is a Online/Electronic Magazine provided?
no
If yes to the either of the above two, how often are they published?
Is attendance to meetings included, or is there a separate cost for
meetings?
Attendance is included.
Do you provide access to "online discussion forums" in the base
membership fee?
No, there are a number of Danish online forums, that we have not
sought to compete with.
Are these web based?
or a mailing list?
Do you provide a "Disk of the Month"?
No.
What other services/products do your members get for their annual
subscription fee?
List of members with addresses, e-mail addresses and descriptions,
iCal calendar of events, an urge to help or find help for any problem
they may encounter, both for pros and amateurs.
A service where we had to rely on either snail mail or a real
workforce would demand a real employee or more, and we have no
intentions nor the money to provide for one, and we don't intend
raising the membership fee just for that.
I have difficulties to fathom how associations that do not rely on
the internet exclusively, can function at all, and I seriously envy
them for the free time that they can apparently spend on their
platform of choice and love.
Should I use just 3 minutes pr. member, printing, folding, labeling
and sending letters to them, I would have to spend more than 10 hours
every time we did anything for their benefit. I, and our other board
members, simply cannot find the time in our daily lives, should we
keep up that kind of work. Having worked in a number of even
international organizations over the years, I am more and more
impressed with the positive implications of the internet, and I
certainly enjoy doing it on my beloved Mac.
Kind regards,
