Time out for a "logic" check.
While _burning_ speeds of CDs/DVDs have become quite fast ( 54X! ),
that does not mean that CD/DVD _players_ run at that speed. How else
can I explain the 'success' of our Minister of Music handing out CDs
that have a simple 'address label' sticker on them! These things play
fine in every player that has been tried. No way can they be
'balanced' with that very much off center label. The only reason I
can come up with is that the label is such a small weight AND the
_player_ does not spin any faster than they always have. Now, if you
put a label on the disk _before_ burning, all bets are off! 8-)
Burning speeds are based on the constant speed of playing speeds. How
else could one claim a "54 times faster" burning speed, if the
playing speeds had somehow changed in the last few years.
Now, I'm still against labels, stick on or printed. They are still
impossible to read when playing! If you need some kind of
identification for a CD/DVD that you plan on keeping for several
hundred years, try putting a number at the extreme inner, un-written
area of the disk. And use an approved ink pen, of course. For a
record of what's on the disk, print it on something to go in the
jewel case or sleeve, that way people will be able to select a
specific track immediately ( that might even prevent a "driving
accident"! :)
I would think that printing jewel case/sleeve labels/inserts would be
as fast, if not faster than printing the disks themselves, also.
