We have MUG members working as Apple Store employees. They are instructed to NOT tell the customers about any of the 4 local MUG groups. Further they are forbidden to join us for any of our events. Apple Store management does come to an occasional meeting when the program is given over to them
Just like MacWorld, Apple prefers its own channels to reach the public

We have our meetings within 5 miles of an apple store, but of course 90% of the store staff doesn't even know what a MUG is, and the other 10% never mention us. If the stores were to mention we MUGs now and then, I believe all of our groups would have stronger membership numbers.
