See, that's downright disgusting that Apple won't even acknowledge our
existence. Use the search field on Apple.com and put in user group, mac
user group, or any variation on such, and you get a "no results" response.
I find that unacceptable.
Our local store staff has never been willing to come to our group, which I
don't have a beef with. (Dave Marra does come and see us once in a while,
thankfully.)
Years ago, the local store did allow us to meet there twice. Once in the
first year of their existence, once in the second. The attitude towards us
during the second visit was not as good as the first. Despite the fact that
our group was the ideal audience and perfectly behaved during both visits
(not that that's ever an issue with our group, but I wanted to make it clear
that I saw no reason for the attitude).
We had also scheduled a third meeting at the store in year 3, but they
forgot about us. When we showed up, they had nothing prepared and were
unwilling to improvise and have someone at least do something with our
group. They essentially wanted us to go away.
That really annoyed we board members, because we were made to look like
idiots and our general membership was highly disappointed. We swore that we
would never do anything involving that store ever again.
This is why the treatment of Apple as some holy entity by so many Mac
enthusiasts has always frustrated me. The company gets away with a lot of
abuses of its devoted user base, because of its superior products.
With regard to User Groups, there is no excuse. Everything about our groups
is centered around furthering the usefulness of Apple products. We provide
a positive, family-friendly, intelligent resource to Mac users. How is that
not something to let the world know about?
