Rick,
I've had luck re-using the same CBPeripheral object by simply calling connectPeripheral: on it after I get the disconnect notification. This should keep all the discovered services and characteristics in tact.

This can shave seconds off a reconnection. Do this defensively, however. I don't think it's a documented behavior, so write code to timeout and limits my number of my reconnection attempts, etc.
