Off topic somewhat--

We have often had difficulty reliably getting traces with the TI sniffer - ie it misses connection events even if we explicitly enter which hardware address to watch. Sometimes a but frustrating. Anyone have any tips?

While Wireshark  is not possible, there are external BT sniffers.
If you don't use encryption, the TI one for 50$ is fine. Otherwise, it becomes expensive pretty fast.

Just to add 2 cents,

my situation is different from Ricks but I like the idea of being able to use the simulator, capture the btle packets and viewing them in wireshark. That is not possible with the device, or at least I wouldn't know how to do it.
